Need a Thanksgiving dinner? Culinary Arts Program can help

EUGENE, Ore. - MLK Education Center is a school for minors who have a pending case with Lane County Youth Services.

The Culinary Arts Program at the school provides kids with vocational training.

Students are cooking up Thanksgiving meals for local residents, and 100 percent of the proceeds are going back into the program.

The Education Center is utilizing a smoker they have on-site.

According to Jose Alvarez, who runs the kitchen, this fundraiser has helped raise money for seven years already.

He said many students working in the kitchen have never eaten a typical Thansgiving meal.

Alvarez said the young chefs benefit from being involved in the work on many fronts.

Dinner packages cost $80 and serve 8-10 adults.

These packages include a 16-18 pound turkey and all the fixings.

Single smoked turkeys are also available for $45.

All orders must be placed by Monday, November 25, for pickup between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27.

For additional questions about ordering your meal, please call Lane County Youth Services at 541.682.7922 or email Toni Cleland:
