SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- In honor of National S'mores Day, local Girl Scouts spent Sunday toasting to the sweet camping treat at an open house event.
The Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington invited the community to make a s'more while learning more about camping safety.
From knife handling to fire safety, scouts shared their knowledge of the outdoors.
"Opportunities for girls to meet girls in their classes and neighborhood and the opportunity to go camping, field trips," said Julia Sherman, a communication development specialist for the Girl Scouts. "It's just a really good opportunity for friends and families to bond together."
