Student attacked in dorm stairwell: Are residence halls secure?

EUGENE, Ore. - A student reported being held down and beat by 2 men in a stairwell of a University of Oregon residence hall early Sunday morning.

The victim told UO police one man held him down while another hit and kicked him in the stairwell of the Living Learning Center South between 1 and 2 a.m. Sunday.

The victim told police both men were white and college-aged but couldn't say anything else about their description.

Police said they're not sure if the the suspects live in the dorm or not, which opens questions about dorm security.

Students use key cards to gain access to resience halls on the Oregon campus, but students said they often hold the door open for others.
