SWEET HOME, Ore. - Police say a murder suspect confessed Friday to stabbing a man during an argument and trying to hide the victim's body in a lake.
Police arrested Donald Arthur Matzke, 43, of Sweet Home, on Friday for murder and robbery 1 charges in connection to the death of 56-year-old Tim Miller.
Miller's body was found a shallow pond Wednesday on a large piece of rural property 7 miles south of Sweet Home commonly known as the Rockin Red Ranch, the Linn County Sheriff's Office said.
Investigators found that Matzke and Miller had been drinking at the property on May 1 when they got into a fight.
Detectives say Matzke confessed to killing Miller, saying he stabbed the man several times during the argument. Matzke told officials he then put Miller's body in a nearby lake and tried to conceal the body by weighing it down with rocks.
Officials said Matzke also took money from Miller.
Matzke acted alone and there were no witnesses to the crime, the Linn County Sheriff's Office said. He was booked at the Linn County Jail on murder and robbery I charges.
