Sheriff: Missing motorcyclist found dead in Lane Co.

Deputies say they found the body of a man who went missing while taking a motorcycle trip from Portland to Medford, the Jackson County Sheriff's Office said.

Officials said that the body of James Lutter, 60 of Phoenix, Ore. was found along a rural forest service road in Lane County. Investigators said he had crashed down an embankment and became pinned under his motorcycle.

A ping from Lutter's cell phone was sent out from southern Lane County in the Big River area.

Lutter was last seen leaving the Portland area on Tuesday for a motorcycle trip that was supposed to put him in Medford on Thursday. Law enforcement issued a missing person's report Saturday after he hadn't arrived.

The Sheriff's Office said that a passerby was able to idenify Lutter because of a news release he had seen.

His route of travel was said to be east through the Detroit area to John Day, then southwest to Medford via various unknown back-roads.
