Recycling - or even reusing - the post-holiday debris

EUGENE, Ore. - The gifts are unwrapped.

      Now what?

Disposing of the holiday debris - boxes, wrapping paper, packing material - need not mean dumping it all in the garbage.

Lane County offers tips on how and where to recycle or reuse common waste generated during the Christmas holiday.

But you might not want to throw out or recycle all that packaging material: You might be able to save money in the future by holding on to reusable materials for next year.

"Reusing is much better than recycling and reducing," said Sarah Grimm, waste reduction specialist for Lane County, "meaning avoiding having to buy it in the first place is much better."
