Officers close Kinsrow Ave. to arrest assault suspect

EUGENE, Ore. -- Police closed down Kinsrow Ave. Saturday night to arrest a man suspected of an assault that sent another man to the hospital, Eugene Police officials said.

The incident started at around 10:15 p.m. when officers arrived at the McKenna Estates apartment complex to arrest a suspect in an assault case. The suspect, 26-year-old Corey Villa, refused to leave the home, Lieutenant Scott Fellman said.

Officers called in a SWAT negotiating team a short time later to help convince Villa out of the apartment, officials said.

Police arrested Villa and officers cleared the area by about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Eugene Police said.

Villa was booked into the Lane County Jail oncharges of 2nd degree assault and interfering with police.

Villa's arrest was connected to an assault that happened on Echo Hollow Road earlier Saturday. Lt. Fellman said the assault victim received "substantial injuries", but is in non-life-threatening condition.

Lt. Fellman said a second person was taken into custody in the case, Jessica Morales, 23, for conspiracy to commit, unauthorized possession of methamphetamine and recklessly endangering another person.

This is a developing story, updates will be posted when information comes in.
