New app keeping student purchases local makes Eugene debut

EUGENE, Ore. -- A new app connecting college students with local business owners will use the University of Oregon for it's debut before going nationwide.

The app, named UniverCity3D, is designed to give local businesses a chance to compete with bigger chain stores while getting students discounts through coupons on their smart phone.

David Koch founded UniverCity3D with two others, and said he believe the app is a perfect marriage for retailers and students.

"Students don't clip coupons, they do not tear things out and bring them in, they don't necessarily listen to radio," said Koch. So what we've done is create a digital couponing application that allows students to bring in their smart phone and show it to retailers and there's there coupon right there."

The app is exclusively for college students, and requires verification through a university email account. Retailers do have to pay a monthly fee.
