Man arrested on sexual assault charges: 'She said she was tied up in the bathroom'

EUGENE, Ore. -- Police arrested a 60-year-old man Monday night who stands accused of attacking and sexually abusing a woman at his house off of Ferry St. in Eugene.

Robert James Brown was booked into the Lane County Jail on 1st-degree sex abuse, sodomy, kidnapping, and strangulation charges.

Matt Michelini lives across the street from Brown at 17th and Ferry St.

He said the alleged victim was panicked and crying when she knocked on his door Monday afternoon.

"She said she was tied up in the bathroom. He made her take a shower, and hit her a few times. I didn't see any physical abuse, I wasn't really paying attention to that but she said that he hit her and she was knocked out," said Michelini.

Police said Brown knew the alleged victim for several years. Oregon Department of Corrections records show that Brown spent several years in prison on criminal mischief and burglary charges.

Robert Brown was arraigned earlier this afternoon where he was appointed a public defender. He will be back in court for a preliminary hearing on May 21.
