Letter Carrier Food Drive Saturday

EUGENE, Ore. - The annual Letter Carriers Food Drive is Saturday.

The national event actually started as a local effort.

Since the 1980s, Food for Lane County has asked residents to place non-perishable food beside their mailbox.

All donations are then picked up by postal employees and transported to the food bank.

This year organizers are optimistic they can collect a substantial amount of food for those in need.

"Our goal this year is 90,000 pounds, said Brad Bassi with Food for Lane County, "and we think that's very possible if the community gets involved and put non-perishable food out in a bag by their mailbox."

If you're interested in donating, make sure to place your donation out early enough for pickup by your mail carrier.
