Last month, little boy hit; this month, crosswalk signal itself smashed

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Last month a young boy got hit by a car at the crosswalk signal installed on a deadly stretch of Main Street.

Sometime over the weekend, it appears a driver took out the signal itself.

Police said drunk drivers and people driving too fast to yield to pedestrians contribute to the danger.

"I couldn't say it's the most dangerous," said Officer Robert Conrad said. "It's just for some reason in the past three to four years, it's been a magnet for pedestrian strikes."

Hitting the sign and leaving the scene of the crash is considered an illegal hit and run.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Springfield Police Department.
