      EUGENE, Ore. - Heading over the mountains this weekend? Be prepared for snow.

      A half foot of snow could fall in the 24 hours starting 4 p.m. Friday at levels down to 3,000 feet, with 1 1/2 feet of snow possible above 5,000 feet, the National Weather Service forecast Thursday in a winter weather advisory. | Current Forecast

      That means snow at pass level over the Cascades.

      The Willamette Pass on Highway 58 is at 5,100 feet.

      Santiam Pass on Highwy 20 is at 4,817 feet.

      "The snow will be especially heavy and accompanied by strong gusts between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. Friday," forecasters said. "Winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph will cause areas of blowing and drifting snow."
