Community rallies behind family after death of mom, newborn daughter

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - The first words Steven Hunt remembers hearing from doctors was that his baby daughter had a heart beat.

But when they didn't say anything about the baby's mother Christina, he knew she had died.

Eight months pregnant, Christina Barton collapsed in the bathroom early on the morning of October 16.

Medics rushed her to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend, where doctors conducted an emergency C-section to deliver her daughter.

      Christina didn't make it.

Steven named the baby after Christina.

But after 4 days on life support, the family lost baby Christina, too.

Steven and Christina were together for 10 years.

Steven said the community support has been overwhelming, and he's truly touched.

"I can't believe there's this much love in the world," he said.

The family has a gofundme account to help with Christina and the baby's memorial.
