Car wash, haircut, meals: Businesses say 'Thank You' to veterans

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Many local restaurants and businesses are using Veterans Day to say "Thank you" to servicemen and women throughout Lane County.

New Image Car Wash in Springfield was giving away free car washes to veterans all day.

Jarred Lawson estimates 75 percent of his customers at New Image took advantage of the deal.

"We're basically doing it because they've provided a service for us and the whole community. We wanted to give back and show our thanks," Lawson said.

This year is the first Veterans Day that Great Clips in Springfield offered past and present military personnel free haircuts.

Customers paying full price for a trim receive a coupon for a free haircut that they can give to a veteran they know.

"It's been really cool. They share a little bit of the stories, which war they've been in, where they've served - places like that, so it's really interesting to hear," said Melissa Soderholm of Great Clips.
