Amber Alert canceled, man in custody after shooting

GRESHAM, Ore. - A man at the center of an Amber Alert was taken into custody late Saturday.

Officials issued the Amber Alert Saturday evening after a woman was critically injured in a shooting at a Gresham apartment. Police believe that the suspect, 36-year-old Joshua Cavett, left the scene with his 2-year-old daughter, Paige.

The victim of the shooting, who has not yet been identified, suffered a life-threatening injury and is now hospitalized.

Police canceled the Amber Alert Saturday night after announcing that they took Cavett in custody.

Cavett did not have legal custody of Paige. Investigators have not yet determined whether the woman who was shot is the girl's mother.

Cavett has an extensive criminal history, was described as being "anti police" and has also had three restraining orders issued against him from three different women. Police said he is also a member of a notorious motorcycle gang, the Gypsy Jokers, who have had a reputation in the past for their involvement in criminal activity.
