ORLAND, Calif. -- Officials say 10 people died Thursday evening in a fiery bus crash in California.
California Highway Patrol said the crash happened when a FedEx truck crossed the freeway and crashed into a tour bus and a white Nissan near Orland.
Among the deceased are five students, three chaperones and both the driver of the bus and the driver of the FedEx truck.
Officials are reporting at least 34 tour bus passengers were injured.
Theresa Fulps said her son, Anthony, is a senior at Pacifica High School in Garden Grove. Anthony was one of many Southern California students on the bus taking a trip to visit the Humboldt State University campus.
"I am very, very thankful," Fulps said, visiting her son in the hospital, "To see it on the news, I couldn't watch. I just broke down. To think that he is alive and that he was in the front of that bus."
Fulps says that Humboldt State is flying her out there and taking care of her rental car and hotel accommodations while her son recovers in the hospital.
Joyce Lopes, vice president for administrative affairs, said the university is doing the same thing for other parents whose children were on-board the bus.
