1 dead in crash at Hwy 99/36 intersection


      JUNCTION, Ore. - One person died and two others were injured when a van on Highway 99 collided with a sports car on Highway 36 at the intersection of the two state routes south of Junction City on Friday morning.

      James Charles Richmond, 55, of Coos Bay died at the hospital. His wife, Barbara Richmond, 55, suffered serious injured and is being treated at Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend.

      The crash happened around 6:40 a.m. Friday as the Richmonds were eastbound on Hwy 36 in a red Acura Integra.

      Their car collided with a black van southbound on Hwy 99 driven by Brian D. Cole, 43, of Sandy, Oregon. Cole was treated at the scene for minor injuries, police said.

      Investigators are still working to determine which car had the right of way at the intersection, which is controlled by an electronic signal.
