EUGENE, Ore. - Standing 6-foot-8, junior Nick Mack is a towering presence in the Marist High School Spartan lineup.

"His length has really caused other teams, our opponents, big problems so far this year," said Bart Pollard said, "and that's one of the things that is his strength, that he is able to you know be kind of a rim presence."

This is Mack's first season as a varsity starter. As the season's progressed, so has his leadership role on the court.

"My first couple of games I just went along with the motions, kind of looked for other people to step up," Mack said, "and then I realized just kind of on my team there's a couple of us who need to just step up and play we need to stop looking around for other people to step up."

"He's very capable of scoring off the offensive glass," coach Pollard said, "and that's something that he needs to make sure he steps up and does."

If he continues to step up there's no telling how far Mack's talents can take him.

"Hopefully I get some scholarship offers as I keep going along in my career," Mack said. "I've trained really hard for this season so I'm excited to maybe talk to some colleges over the summer."
