Watch KMTR NewsSource 16 Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. for Prep Athlete of the Week.

EUGENE, Ore. - Delaney Andrist started figure skating at age 4.

She says she fell early and often, but after a few years, it all began to click.

Now a senior at South Eugene High School, Andrist skates for the Eugene Figure Skating Club and is a regular at the Lane County Ice Center.

Andrist said figure skating takes hard work, dedication and sacrifice, like waking up early in the morning and going to practice.

Through it all, she says she's created friendships that will last a lifetime.

Andrist may skate in the singles competition, but she says the sport is about camaraderie. She's become a coach at the rink to inspire a younger generation of skaters.

In terms of finding inspiration for herself, Andrist said she looks up to those skaters competing in the Winter Olympics because they represent a dream accomplished and give others hope to achieve their own goals.
