Marist High tennis player: 'I'm competitive. I want to win every time I'm out there'

EUGENE, Ore. -- Winning seems to come naturally to Marist High junior AJ Bartko. The tennis doubles state champion has been playing the game for over a decade.

"I'm competitive. I want to win every time I'm out there," said AJ Bartko.

In the winter, Bartko leaves the tennis court for the basketball court. He said his time playing hoops leads to success in the spring.

"You move from going up and down to side to side. Used to shooting basketball, said Bartko.

Now Bartko and his playing partner are a few steps away from another state title and they have a chance to build a doubles tennis legacy at Marist.

"They get to call each other state champions. Accolades go to them and the team," said Marist head coach Court Broughton.
