EUGENE, Ore. - Final preparations are underway for the first day of competition and opening ceremonies of the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships at historic Hayward Field.

This is the first time the championships have been held in the U.S.

The evet is being called Oregon 14, in the vein of the last two US Olympic trials nicknamed Eugene 08 and TrackTown 12.

And like those events, the Worlds stand to be more than your typical track meet.

      For example:

      • The University of Oregon orchestra will perform live in the Hayward Field infield during the men's 10,000 meter final will be historic.
      • Athlete medals include inlaid wood to highlight Oregon's lush forests and history.
      • The City of Eugene has challenged visitors and residents alike to take part in a Sustainability Scavenger Hunt, Participants in the scavenger hunt receive a commemorative Oregon '14 medallion made from reclaimed wood from local sources.
